The Orbweavers
The Orbweavers
The Orbweavers are Marita Dyson and Stuart Flanagan, multidisciplinary artists working in songwriting, music, performance and visual art, based in Narrm / Melbourne, on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people. They have released 4 studio albums (‘Deep Leads’ garnering PBS Feature Album, ‘Loom’ RRR Album of the Week), 15 singles, created commissioned works for cultural organisations, film, ABC TV and radio, and performed at festivals across the country. Their latest album ‘New Moon / Silver Moon’ is out now through Mistletone.
The Orbweavers have been researching and writing songs about local waterways, industrial history and environmental change for many years. They received a State Library of Victoria Creative Fellowship in 2016 to research and write a suite of songs about local waterways, which has developed into a variety of ongoing creative responses, performances and collaborations. Following their recent residency in Broken Hill in Far West NSW, The Orbweavers’ new songs continue to respond to the specificities of place, as they seek to more deeply understand and respond to local histories and the ongoing impacts of colonisation and industrialisation on ecosystems.
