Kate Amos
Kate Amos is one of Australia’s most artistically versatile and sought-after young artists. Melbourne-born soprano Kate holds music qualifications and Dip. in Italian from The University of Melbourne, with a ‘Masters in Opera’ from the Welsh International Academy of Voice.
In 2019, Kate made her principal artist debut with Opera Australia at the Sydney Opera House, in world-premiere Australian opera Whiteley, as Arkie Whiteley. Following this, she debuted Barbarina in Sir David McVicar’s acclaimed Le Nozze di Figaro.
Kate has sung with many opera companies, notably Victorian Opera; performing leading / supporting roles as a Young Artist from 2014-2016, including: Cendrillion, The Dew Fairy, and Glinda: La Strega del Sud (Il Mago di Oz).
Most recently, Kate performed Angel 1 in Richard Mills’ world-premiere Galileo and in Candide with VO. Kate frequently performs operetta, including previous leading roles with GSOV. Her musical passion has taken her around Europe, including winning the prestigious Traetta Prize at the 2023 Caffarelli International Baroque Competition in Italy. In 2017, Kate sang Rosina at the Mediterranean Opera Festival and the Brahms Requiem at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, London.
Kate has trained extensively across multiple disciplines, including acting at the Howard Fine Studio, classical ballet (RADA) and musical theatre (NIDA, AMTA). She is thrilled to be returning to Lyric Opera in The Children’s Bach, having previously performed the roles of Milly in Our Man in Havana and Catherine in The Red Apple.
