[Listen] Steve Albini

BACK

‘If the inclusive culture thought it was rejecting me, it was wrong. I was doing fine without it’ - Steve Albini

With the recent loss of legendary recording engineer and musician Steve Albini, we're revisiting this conversation from 2015 between Albini and host Woody McDonald. Following the recent passing of Steve Albini, we're listening to the legendary musician and audio engineer in conversation with host Woody McDonald at this 2015 Wheeler Centre event. As a veteran audio engineer and frontman of influential bands Big Black and Shellac, Albini saw the machinations of the industry up close and from multiple vantage points. He worked with huge international acts including PJ Harvey, Nirvana and Pixies, and despite recording with some of the biggest names in the business Albini continued, throughout his career, to collaborate with countless experimental bands. On the eve of Meredith Music Festival in December 2015 – where he played with Shellac – Albini joined host Woody McDonald at The Wheeler Centre to reflect on his storied career, his thoughts on the current state of music and predictions for the future.

This event was recorded on Thursday 15 December 2015 at The Wheeler Centre.

Featured music is 'Riding Bikes' by Shellac.
