Check out the latest events and opportunities from the wide range of writing and arts organisations inside the Wheeler Centre.
As the centre of Books, Writing and Ideas, we are host to some fantastic arts and culture organisations within our walls. Within the Wheeler Centre building on Lonsdale Street lives Australian Poetry, Blak & Bright, Melbourne City of Literature Office, Emerging Writers' Festival, Express Media, Melbourne Writers Festival, PEN Melbourne, the Small Press Network and Writers Victoria. Beneath the Wheeler Centre you can enjoy a European culinary escape at Italian inspired restaurant The Moat. Discover what's coming up in July 2023 for all of these organisations below.  

The City of Literature Office

Running from 2-7 October, the International Literary Programmers Roundtable is an event that combines the highlights of Melbourne with a range of professional opportunities for delegates. Applications are now open for any Melbourne-based professional who works in the literary sector and delivers programs to an audience. Expressions of interest close on Monday 31 July, 5pm AEDT.  
 

Express Media

Things are abuzz at Express Media this month! Catch up on the Toolkits season one live talks over on YouTube, swing by your local bookstore to grab Voiceworks Issue #129 ‘Static’ or consider submitting to the recently announced 2023 Hachette Australia Prize for Young Writers.  Open to students aged 12-18, this prize aims to ignite a passion for creative writing, offering the resources to pursue writing and publishing opportunities outside of the classroom. Melbourne Writers Festival

The 2023 Melbourne Writers Festival podcast program has begun! Listen to new episodes every week, recorded live at MWF23, wherever you listen to podcasts. Featuring conversations with Stan Grant, Sam Neill, Jazz Money, Sarah Krasnostein, Bill Hayes and many more of the best writers and storytellers of our time.  
 

Writers Victoria

Writers Victoria's diverse and instructive collection of Online Feedback Clinics start this month. Submit your work to an expert in their area and receive concrete and specific feedback that will help you grow. From writing young adult fiction to pitching to literary journals, these clinics will help you reach your writing goals. If one of your goals is to write overseas, round ten of the Neilma Sidney Literary Travel Fund is now open for applications! Australian writers and literary sector workers can apply for grants between $2000 to $10,000 for travel-based career development.⁠ Applications for Round 10 close at 11.59pm on 17 August 2023.
