We wouldn’t normally write about a press release.
Not even the ones that make great fodder for drinking games (you know: drink when you read ‘acclaimed’, ‘award-winning’, ‘rare talent’, ‘lyrical’, etc).
But today, a new book arrived at the Wheeler Centre along with the hands-down best press release we’ve ever read.
Pat Grant’s Blue is a graphic novel about beach culture and the new (post-Cronulla) Australian nationalism, to be released in March 2012.
In a move bound to brighten the days of literary editors across Australia (smart!), Grant applied his comic skill to creating a press release that is a work of art in its own right - and very, very funny to boot. (We particularly like the ‘Australian film industry elevator pitch’.)
Enjoy!
If you visit Pat’s website, you can see his ‘shameless publicity document’ in a glorious high-res version, with an added gag at the end.
*Yes, we’re aware that our headline is a prime example of the kind of hyperbole that we’d roll our eyes at on a press release. But it got your attention, didn’t it? (Besides, surely it’s true.)
