In the first of our videos on the Texts in the City series, Tony Wilson speaks with special guest Dr Stephanie Trigg of the University of Melbourne on Peter Goldsworthy’s novel Maestro. On Friday, Tony, author and co-presenter of our Texts in the City series, wrote on the trials and tribulations of studying great novels for the VCE. In the essay, Tony writes, “We’re hoping that students will come along and see that, quite apart from the course requirements and the declared themes and the likely questions on November’s exam, these texts exist as books, plays and films – as pieces of art that inspire and delight people in the millions.”

Tony presents the Texts in the City series with Jenny Niven of the Melbourne Writers Festival. The events are held from 4:30pm to 5:15pm every Thursday at the Wheeler Centre. Coming up this Thursday, a discussion of Peter Weir’s classic 1985 movie, Witness, starring Harrison Ford. In following weeks, we’ll take a look at Barack Obama’s Dreams of My Father and Louis Nowra’s Cosi.
