Golden Age comics that have fallen out of copyright are being collected online at the Digital Comics Museum, according to Boing Boing. The archive is huge and often hilarious (sample comic Sparky Watts: World’s Strongest Funny Man or perhaps Noodnink: He’s Cute! He’s Fresh! He’s a Million Laughs).
The comics are donated or scanned by fans who want to preserve little-known titles from the 1930s and 1950s, which (given the cheapness of pulp paper used for comics) should ensure they can be read in the future.
The only catch could be in getting them to display on your machine. Geekosystem reports that the comics are in “standard digital comics formats” and can be viewed on most devices, but goes on to report that CDisplay (one of the most common pieces of comic viewing software) has two versions one which is “no longer supported” and the newer version is “reportedly buggier”.
