Emerging writers run wild at this Spring Fling edition of our popular Next Big Thing series.

Join us on the rooftop garden terrace of narrm ngarrgu Library and hear from some of Australia’s brightest new writers.

Keshe Chow’s young adult novel, A Girl with No Reflection, is a lush fantasy story that blends romance, palace intrigue and Chinese mythology. It received the 2022 VPLA Unpublished Manuscript Award.

Kylie Mirmohamadi’s debut novel Diving, Falling is a seductive and darkly funny tale of one woman’s reclamation of her life following the death of her famous, philandering husband.

In Sophie Matthiesson’s Together We Fall Apart, a woman is torn between her young family and the past she can’t escape.

All I Ever Wanted Was To Be Hot is Lucinda Price aka Froomes’s debut collection of essays exploring obsession, self-image, beauty ideals and the pursuit of being ‘hot’.

Lucy O’Shea Carré’s Voiceworks piece ‘Summer Breathing’ is about one sweltering hot day and evokes the sweetness and ominousness of childhood summers.

Hear these talented emerging writers read from their work, which renders the complicated intersection of identity and longing with heartfelt clarity.
