The Next Big Thing: Growing Pains

Book Now

Five electrifying new writers explore formative experiences and the joys and heartache of self-discovery at the latest installment of The Next Big Thing.

Hunker down out of the cold at The Moat, as a red-hot lineup of emerging writers share the work that’s garnering them the attention of Australia’s literary scene.

In her debut book Safe Space, Alyssa Huynh shares how she fought back against racism, found her sense of belonging, and emerged ready to support others to do the same.

Described by Kris Kneen as an ‘hallucinogenic rush’, Jordan Prosser’s wickedly funny dystopian novel Big Time is an anti-fascist ode to the power of pop music.

Melanie Saward’s Love Unleashed is a friends-to-lovers rom-com set in New York City, about a Bigambul woman trying to find magic and love in the city that never sleeps.

Winner of the 2023 Penguin Literary Prize, Michelle See-Tho’s breakthrough novel Jade and Emerald explores the complexities of mother-daughter relationships and the joys and pains of navigating two cultures.

Elena Hogan’s heartfelt Voiceworks piece ‘and still the lilies bloomed’ unearths striking memories that ruined and rebuilt her family structures in the winter of 2023.

Hosted by Diem Nguyen.
