Joshua Cohen has become one of America’s leading writers, known for his metafictional epics exploring the Jewish-American experience and contemporary identity politics. He has published over 12 works spanning fiction, non-fiction and short stories, and was named one of Granta’s Best Young American Novelists. In 2022, his most recent novel, The Netanyahus, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. The Netanyahus: An Account of a Minor and Ultimately Even Negligible Episode in the History of a Very Famous Family blends the campus novel with a lecture in what the Pulitzer judges referred to as ‘a mordant, linguistically deft historical novel about the ambiguities of the Jewish-American experience, presenting ideas and disputes as volatile as its tightly-wound plot.’ In his first Australian visit, Cohen joins author Bram Presser to discuss his genre-bending new novel, Jewish-American identity, mixing fact and fiction, and writing serious topics with humour.
