Over a long lunch at the Sofitel, join a panel including Tasneem Chopra, Tishya Desai, Kamila Shamsie and host Jamila Rizvi for an informative and much-needed conversation shining a light on the stories, challenges and successes of women of colour in professional life.
Modern Australian women face complex challenges at work irrespective of their chosen field. For women of colour, these challenges are amplified by intersecting issues of inequality and discrimination. Coming together for Spring Fling, a panel of women of colour share their professional experiences and personal perspectives for an informative and necessary exploration of taking and holding space in the workplace. Tasneem Chopra is an experienced cross-cultural consultant who addresses leadership, cultural competence and intersectionality across private and public spheres. Tishya Desai is a program and learning designer, currently managing Future Women's webinar series supporting Australian women to upskill and build their confidence in the workplace. British-Pakistani author Kamila Shamsie has won awards and global acclaim for novels that centre ambitious, complex women of colour, including Home Fire and her more recent work, Best of Friends. In an intimate lunchtime setting at Melbourne’s iconic Sofitel on Collins, this panel hosted by journalist and Deputy Managing Director of Future Women Jamila Rizvi offers the opportunity to listen to and learn from a breadth of stories, challenges and successes of women of colour in professional life.
This event will be photographed and recorded for use by the Wheeler Centre.
