Antony Beevor: History Lessons

Can understanding the past help us predict the future? Sir Antony Beevor, the number one bestselling historian in Britain, reflects on the past to analyse the present and speculate on what lies ahead.

When we are uncertain of the way forward, we often look to the past. For leading military historian Sir Antony Beevor, applying a historical lens to contemporary events can unearth the profound impact of the past on our geopolitical present. Known for his immersive narrative accounts of historical military conflicts, Beevor is the number one bestselling historian in Britain, with his acclaimed books including Stalingrad, Berlin, and The Second World War. His latest work, Russia: Revolution and Civil War 1917-1921, is a revealing examination of Russia’s historical and geopolitical contexts and conflicts, casting a timely spotlight on its contemporary ambitions and the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. For this special Spring Fling event, Sir Antony Beevor joins host Sally Warhaft via live-cross to re-examine some of history’s greatest conflicts – past and current – drawing parallels between the turbulent events of the twentieth century to learn more about the global society we live in today. Sir Antony Beevor will appear at this event via live-cross.

This event will be photographed and recorded for use by the Wheeler Centre.
