What happens when two sides of the same coin try to monetise that coin? If you stare long enough into the void & it stares back, is it now an audience for your work? (thanks for the follow void xx!!!) If a tree falls in the forest & there’s no one there to see it, did it even make content??? Honestly so sick of these trees trying to upstage me!! Does it even know what I’ve been through!?
Obsessed with drafting and redrafting a single piece of content over an hour, two performers (not narcissists) invite you on a journey (not a hellscape) of fast-paced surrealist comedy, quips, disintegration, technology and shameless grabs at relevancy.
Following a season as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, join us at the Wheeler Centre for an Auslan-interpreted presentation of Nemeses – the debut show of the newly-formed duo We Are Nemeses, featuring Alistair Baldwin (Get Krack!n, The Weekly, Hard Quiz) and Vidya Rajan (ABC Comedy, Melbourne/Perth Fringe Award Winner, Malthouse Theatre Writer in Residence) – directed by Michelle Brasier (Aunty Donna, Shaun Micallef's Mad As Hell, Double Denim).
After the show, stay for a panel conversation as the performers are joined by Chloe Alison Escott and host Scott Limbrick to discuss the politics of comedy, and the experimental, hybrid possibilities of the form. How does alternative comedy fit into the Australian comedy landscape? And as the boundaries of what is considered mainstream expand, what exactly is alt-comedy?

Alistair Baldwin
Alistair Baldwin is a writer and comedian based in Naarm / Melbourne. He has written for ABC's The Weekly, Get Krack!n, Hard Quiz & At Home Alone Together. Published works include pieces for un. Magazine, Archer, Metro and Black Inc.'s Growing Up Disabled In Australia anthology. He is 1/2 of the experimental (and toxic) comedy duo Nemeses with Vidya Rajan.
Chloe Alison Escott
Chloe Alison Escott is a musician, writer and comedian from Hobart. She made her standup debut in 2004, made her standup debut again in 2009, and then, after finally correcting a decades-long gender error, made her standup debut once more in 2015. Her career highlights that sound best in a short bio and aren't just 'a very good set that went well' include the Raw Comedy national final in 2010; her monthly new standup and sketch show 'Pinball at Hanging Rock' throughout 2012; her experimental sound/comedy piece 'You Sit Facing Forward at the Museum of Art', commissioned by Liquid Architecture in 2017; her touring anxiety breakdown/anxiety salve 'Noise Show, with Puzzles' in 2017; and her controversial appearance at a panel discussion on experimental and hybrid comedy forms at the Wheeler Centre in 2020.
Scott Limbrick
Scott is a writer and comedian based in Melbourne. He has written and presented for Comedy Central UK and has had filmed projects featured by Funny or Die, Cinefest Oz, FilmInk and MIFF Powershorts. His written work has been shortlisted for the Richell Prize and the Fair Australia Prize and has appeared in The Suburban Review, Westerly, Junkee, VICE, Meanjin, MTV, The New Statesman and others.
Recently he wrote and performed The Last Blockbuster on Earth at Perth Fringe World and Waiting for Combo with Caitlyn Staples at Melbourne Fringe Festival, and was co-host of Channel 31/RMITV's The Leak with Rose Bishop and Lena Moon. With Elyce Phillips he co-produces and hosts the character comedy night ‘Great Speeches in History’. In 2019 he completed a Master of Screenwriting at the VCA.
