Liane Moriarty writes smart, sexy suburban satire – and it's made her a huge, if reluctant, star.
The Sydney-based author is perhaps the most successful novelist in Australian history. She once had three books on the New York Times bestseller list at the same time, and her books are translated in 40 languages (including Montenegrin and Slovenian). Engrossing and ingeniously plotted, Moriarty’s novels – including Three Wishes, Truly Madly Guilty and more – are somehow both wicked and warm.
They’re a hit in Hollywood, too. Her 2014 novel, Big Little Lies, is now an Emmy-winning TV series, starring Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, and What Alice Forgot is headed for the big screen next year.
At the Athenaeum Theatre in September, Toni Jordan joins Moriarty to discuss Hollywood success, Moriarty's new novel, Nine Perfect Strangers, and the universal stories that spring from the suburbs of Sydney.
