It’s said that a Jack Reacher novel is sold somewhere in the world every nine seconds, making the series’ author, Lee Child, a publishing phenomenon.

Fired from his day-job at age 40, Child starting writing novels more than 20 years ago, and his name is now ‘the strongest brand in publishing’ according to Forbes magazine. The insanely addictive Jack Reacher thrillers – and the movie spin-offs starring Tom Cruise – have made Child’s name a billion-dollar brand.

At the centre of it all is the enigmatic appeal of Child’s protagonist, the moody, ex-military policeman, Jack Reacher himself. At six foot five with a 50-inch chest, Reacher is a giant slab of vigilante, drifting across the towns and cities of America, slugging bad guys and righting wrongs. In the new book, Past Tense, Child takes the reader on a roadtrip with Reacher, who – with no fixed address, ties, or commitments – is guided only by his own conscience and his incredible powers of deduction.

At Deakin Edge in November, Child will discuss storytelling, fantasy figures and men of mystery – and share stories from his own remarkable career. Hosted by Emma Viskic.

Sun Bookshop will be our bookseller at this event.
