Know any budding artists? At this Wheeler Kids workshop, perfect for arty types aged 7–12, brilliant young illustrator Gabriel Evans will reveal some trade secrets, share his experiences from years in the business and put creative kids to work!
Gabriel uses traditional methods, like watercolour and ink, and is known for his fabulous illustrations in kids’ books including Roses are Blue, Annie’s Snail and Captain Sneer. He’ll give kids a ‘publisher’s brief’ to work through and give them a real taste of the professional creative process – providing tips on responding to text and sharing his insights on composition, mood and colour.
Join him for a fun, energetic and imaginative afternoon.
This event is perfect for children aged 7-12, but open to all ages.

Gabriel Evans
Gabriel Evans is a children's book illustrator – and occasional author – of over 18 books.
He has illustrated for publishers including Walker Books Australia, Five Mile Press and Koala Books. His book with Sally Murphy, Roses are Blue, received a notable mention in the Children's Book Council's Book of the Year award 2015.
Working from his chaotic studio, Gabriel paints in traditional mediums including watercolour, gouache and ink. When he's not creating books he's designing business logos, greeting cards, gallery artworks and artist impressions of public buildings. He also loves planting oak trees and picking apricots from his little orchard.
