‘If you want your sexual exuberance to match mine three decades after age 40, start listening to your elders’. That’s the advice American author Joan Price gave to Miley Cyrus in a 2013 open letter, after Cyrus announced that over-40s don’t have sex.
In 2011, Price wrote Naked at Our Age: Talking out Loud about Senior Sex, which explored the challenges, delights, surprises and frustrations of sex for older people. The book won awards and was praised for its warmth and humour as well as its practical, no-nonsense advice. Her new book is The Ultimate Guide to Sex After 50: How to Maintain – or Regain! – a Spicy, Satisfying Sex Life. Price will talk about sex – and seniors – with Australian sex therapist, educator and media commentator Cyndi Darnell.

Cyndi Darnell
Cyndi Darnell is a holistic sex & relationship therapist, counsellor and sex educator, with advanced degrees in Counselling and Sexual Health and a Bachelor in Adult Education. She has presented her work locally and internationally and is a published academic author and media commentator. Cyndi counsels individuals and couples, runs workshops and seminars on sex and the human condition, and offers insight into the quandaries of the erotic to transform fear into freedom.
Joan Price
Joan Price calls herself an advocate for ageless sexuality. She has been called other things by the media: ‘senior sexpert’, ‘the beautiful face of senior sex’ and – her favourite – ‘wrinkly sex kitten’.
Formerly a health and fitness writer – and before that, a high school English teacher – she now writes books about senior sex. Her latest book is The Ultimate Guide to Sex after Fifty: How to Maintain – or Regain! – a Spicy, Satisfying Sex Life. Her earlier senior sex books include her memoir, Better Than I Ever Expected: Straight Talk about Sex After Sixty; the award-winning self-help guide, Naked at Our Age: Talking Out Loud about Senior Sex; and the steamy senior sex anthology that she edited, Ageless Erotica.
At age 71, Joan Price continues to talk out loud about senior sex, partnered or solo, in speeches and workshops – and on her zesty blog about sex and aging, NakedAtOurAge.com, which includes senior sex news, views, and reviews of more than 80 sex toys from a senior perspective.
She writes the Sex at Our Age column for www.SeniorPlanet.org. Joan received the Catalyst Award 2014 for 'inspiring exceptional conversations in sexuality'.
