Our first ever event was a Debut Monday. Three years on, it’s still going strong, introducing new Australian talent each month.
Whether it’s meeting Australia’s latest wunderkind or hearing an unknown quantity strike a bold new path, Debut Mondays is your chance to discover your next favourite author.
You’ll meet a selection of new voices – from Victoria and beyond – including a special guest in each session from Voiceworks magazine.
Pop down to the MOAT, our resident cafe and bar, to grab a drink or a meal – and be nourished and entertained by the pick of our latest storytelling crop.
May’s guests will be Yvette Walker, Tom Doig, Naomi Armstrong and Kate Belle.

Naomi Armstrong
Naomi Sarah Armstrong (19) lives in urban Melbourne. Currently in the second year of her degree at the University of Melbourne, she is majoring in English literary studies and completing a diploma in Japanese. When she isn’t reading or writing, her days are filled with music and epicurean adventures.
Kate Belle
Kate Belle is an author of challenging love stories. The Yearning and Being Jade (Simon & Schuster) received rave reviews.
Her short story, 'Cool Change', won the 2011 Southern Cross Literary Award and the script by the same name received a highly commended in the 2012 Fellowship of Australian Writers Awards.
Kate is a strong advocate for women reclaiming their power through the stories they tell and blogs on gender issues, relationships, sexuality and books at The Ecstasy Files and elsewhere.
Tom Doig
Tom Doig is a writer, PhD candidate and moron. He has an MA in Hitler Comedy and a sore bum from cycling across northern Mongolia. His first book is Moron to Moron (Allen & Unwin) and his next book will be The Coal Face: Stories from the Morwell Mine Fire (Penguin).
Yvette Walker
Yvette Walker has a BA (Honours) and a PhD from Curtin University. She was a writing fellow at Varuna, the Writer's Centre, in 2009 and again in 2011. Her debut novel, Letters to the End of Love, was published by University of Queensland Press.
Letters to the End of Love won a 2014 WA Premier's Book Award (WA Emerging Writer) and was shortlisted for a 2014 NSW Premier's Book Award (Glenda Adam's Award for New Writing). She is currently working full time on her second novel called Stranger, If You Passing Meet Me.
