Margaret Pomeranz
Margaret Pomeranz AM co-hosted The Movie Show on SBS and At The Movies on ABC with David Stratton for nearly three decades. She has served as a member of the Advertising Standards Board, is a past President of the Film Critics Circle of Australia and has been both President and Vice-President of Watch on Censorship. Margaret is currently presenting movies and a review program Screen on Foxtel.
She has a Bachelor of Arts from Macquarie University and was selected for the Playwright's Studio at NIDA, after which she began writing for television, radio and film. She joined the newly established Special Broadcasting Service in 1980 as writer/producer, which led to her being appointed producer for David Stratton's movie hostings. Some years later, in 1986, they were able to get The Movie Show up and running. The duo moved to the ABC in 2004 to establish At The Movies.
David Stratton
David Stratton is a former director of the Sydney Film Festival, former film critic for the international film industry magazine Variety, and is currently film critic for The Australian. He also co-hosts the ABC’s At the Movies with Margaret Pomeranz.
A recipient of the Australian Film Institute’s Raymond Longford Award, David has also served as a former president of the International Critics Jury for the Cannes and Venice Film Festivals, authored two books, and is currently lecturing in Film History as part of the Continuing Education Program at the University of Sydney. He is also a past president of the Film Critics Circle of Australia.
David’s long list of awards and achievements include: 60th Anniversary Medal by the Festival du Film de Cannes (2007); the Chauvel Award by the Brisbane International Film Festival (2007); and Commander of Order of Arts and Letters by French Government in 2000.
David has been the film consultant to SBS from its inception, and then presenter of both the Movie of the Week and Cinema Classics for over 22 years. David also co-hosted The Movie Show with Margaret Pomeranz on SBS until their move to At the Movies on ABC TV in July 2004.
