Humanity has never faced a problem like this before: a problem with no boundaries, caused by the very dynamics that have led to economic growth and human betterment. So it’s little wonder that as States deliberate the question of responsibility it is clear the divide between the developed world and the rest remains keenly felt. Who should take the lead? Why should responses be equal when little else is? From China and India to South Africa or Tuvalu, one country’s ‘innovation’ might just be the next’s undoing.

Panel Member: Dr. Jon Barnett is a political geographer and Australian Research Council Fellow at Melbourne University.
He is convenor of the National Research Network on the social, and economic dimensions of climate change, and on the Scientific Steering Committee of the Global Environmental Change and Human Security Project.
Prasad Menon
Panel Member: Prasad Menon has been Managing Director of Tata Power, India’s largest privately owned power company since 2006.
He served in various capacities in ICI’s chemicals, pesticides and fertiliser divisions for 20 years and took over as the Managing Director of Tata Chemicals in October 2000.
Kartikeya Sarabhai
Keynote Speaker: Kartikeya Sarabhai is the Founding Director of the Centre for Environment Education, India.
He is a member of the Earth Charter International Council and Vice-Chair of the Indian National Commission for the International Union Conservation of Nature. He is also editor of the Journal of Education for Sustainable Development.
Tim Costello
Tim Costello is one of Australia’s most sought after voices on issues of social justice, leadership and ethics. Since 2004, Tim has been CEO of World Vision – Australia’s largest international development agency.
Trained in economics, law, education and theology, Tim has practised law, served as a Baptist minister, and has been active in church and community leadership, local government and national affairs.
