State of the (Writing) Nation: Louise Milligan

Book Now

The State of the (Writing) Nation is Writers Victoria’s annual address from a prominent Australian writer, and a chance to reflect on what’s happening now and where we’re heading in Australian literature and publishing.

The State of the (Writing) Nation is Writers Victoria’s major annual fundraising event and will be hosted by poet and Writers Victoria patron Andy Jackson.

Join us in person to hear the 2024 address from journalist and author Louise Milligan whose book Witness was People’s Choice winner in the Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards. Milligan published her debut novel, Pheasants Nest, in March.

Hear Milligan's insights into the world of Australian literature and how we need to keep elevating voices that we wouldn't otherwise hear – voices that can change the national conversation. You will also hear from emerging writers Gurmeet Kaur and Beau Windon.

The formalities end at 7.30pm but please join us for a drink afterwards to continue the conversation.

A live stream of this event will also be available for those living interstate.

This event will be available to live stream on this page from 6.30pm AEST on Thursday 21 November 2024.

Bookings for the live stream are not required.

Presented in partnership with Writers Victoria. All proceeds from this event will support Writers Victoria and the Writers Victoria Fund which provides writers experiencing financial barriers with access to professional development and networking opportunities.
