Publisher Hilary McPhee, editor of celebrated film-maker Tim Burstall’s diaries, explores the impetus to diarise and the appeal of diaries as windows to the past. Burstall’s diaries in particular paint a stark portrait of the language of sex and gender conventions in 1950s Australia, an area of study close to McPhee’s heart. Join us for an investigation of a unique and fascinating snapshot of the life of one of Australia’s true bohemians.
Hilary McPhee is joined in conversation by Wendy Tuohy.

I am so pleased to have seen this interview as it has given me a new slant on the book and its publication. Many thanks.
I am a little more forgiving of Tim now.

Was really disappointed to not attend this session. Now, sitting at home through Hillary's interview has been fascinating: Tim's extraordinary recordings of his life in Eltham in the '50's, have certainly been placed in the right hands. Non-judgemental, wise, articulate, perceptive, Hilary's a woman of comparable times and locations. I suspect that her own life warrants the attention of a good biographer.
I'm heading, with every intent, for the library tomorrow to get my hands on a copy. This facility to watch interviews is wonderful. Thank you.
