Based on his Quarterly Essay, David Marr discusses Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s personality and politics including “Rudd’s passion for martyrs”, how he has “been underestimated at every stage of his career” and why “he is the strongest Labor leader for about half a century”. Marr asks how can Rudd use his power in the months leading up to the election?

This is such an important discussion on the understanding of Rudd - the article was characterised in such a shallow way and this gives an in depth analysis from which to begin to look at Rudd's dissonances. I found Marr to be charitable, yet he was portrayed as saying Rudd was 'angry'. A complex article was reduced to a bumper sticker. Also glad I hear Marr on Phillip Adams:

It certainly is a great discussion of Rudd and gives a more complex sense of Marr's take on him.
