He’s been called Australia’s greatest living storyteller, but Bryce Courtenay came to fiction as a way to escape bullying at school in South Africa. In this unique interview he reflects on the craft of writing and his own life. In writing April Fool’s Day he took on the personal tragedy of losing his son and here he remembers the struggle to write a book about his son’s death.
Courtenay was a guest of the Melbourne Writers Festival.
