The Orange Prize for Fiction long-list has been announced, and amongst those nominated is Australian MJ Hyland.
The Guardian reports that the chair of the judging panel didn't find much to celebrate amongst the entries however, complaining that "there's not been much wit and not much joy, there's a lot of grimness out there,"
The list in full.
Thomas Keneally's novel The People's Train, Peter Carey's Parrot And Olivier In America and Alex Miller's Lovesong have all been long-listed for this year's Miles Franklin award.
There are a number of first-time novelists on the list, announced yesterday, including Deborah Forster for The Book of Emmett.
