





Stephen Armstrong writes criticism and commentary, and has appeared on ABC TV’s Critical Mass.
Stephen graduated in English Literature and History & Philosophy of Science at the University of Melbourne. He is Executive Producer of Malthouse Theatre and Chairman of Chunky Move dance company.
Previous positions include Artistic Associate of Sydney Theatre Company, General Manager of Queensland Theatre Company and founding General Manager of Chamber Made Opera. He has published criticism and commentary and was a regular panelist on ABC TV’s Critical Mass. He has judged for the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award, the Melbourne Prize (Lit) and the Patrick White Playwrights’ Award.
Stephen has been the grateful recipient of the Myer Group Arts Award, the George Fairfax Fellowship, the Berlin Theatertreffen Travel Award and a scholarship to attend the Executive Program for Non-Profit Leaders at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. He delivered the 1999 Kenneth Myer Lecture, received the 2005 Green Room Award for Outstanding Contribution to Theatre, gave the Keynote Address for the 2006 Australian International Performing Arts Market, and was awarded the 2008 Kenneth Myer Medallion for Outstanding Achievement in the Performing Arts.
