Paul Chadwick

Paul Chadwick, journalist and lawyer, has been the inaugural Director of Editorial Policies at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation since 2007.

Trained in newspapers, Paul Chadwick pioneered the use of freedom of information laws by journalists when FoI legislation was first introduced in the 1980s.

He established and ran the Victorian operations of the non-profit Communications Law Centre from 1989 to 1997.

His books are on FoI and media ownership. He served on the Brennan Committee which revised the Media Alliance (Australian Journalists' Association) Code of Ethics in the 1990s and has contributed to journalism development work in Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and Cambodia.

In 1997, he received the Walkley Award for Most Outstanding Contribution to Journalism. From 2001 to 2006 he held statutory office as the first Privacy Commissioner of Victoria.
