Christine Kenneally is a journalist and author who has written for The New Yorker, The New York Times, Slate, New Scientist and The Monthly. She writes about culture, psychology, evolution and, fundamentally, who we think we are.
Christine’s stories have covered brain surgery, emergency communications, and animal language. Kenneally’s New Yorker article about the Victorian bushfires was included in The Best Australian Essays: a Ten Year Collection. Her book, The First Word: The Search for the Origins of Language (Viking), was a finalist for a Los Angeles Times Book Prize. The New York Times called it a “lucid survey …that covers an enormous expanse of ground.” Before becoming a reporter, Kenneally received a PhD in linguistics from Cambridge University and a BA (Hons) in English and linguistics from Melbourne University. She was born and raised in Melbourne and has lived in England, Iowa, and Brooklyn, New York.
