Alexis Wright

Alexis Wright is a member of the Waanyi nation of the southern highlands of the Gulf of Carpentaria. She is the author of the novel Carpentaria, which won the Miles Franklin Award in 2007.

Her first highly-acclaimed debut novel Plains of Promise was later published in France as Les Plaines de L'Espoir (1999). Her other books are Grog War, Believing the Unbelievable, the short story collection The Serpent’s Covenant and she is the compiler and editor of a collection of essays and stories celebrating 20 years of land rights in Central Australia, Take Power.

She has written widely on Indigenous rights, and lived and worked for several years in Central Australia where she organised successful Indigenous Constitutional Conventions.

She now lives and writes in Melbourne.
